John Lobbett, a 17 year old Exeter A team goalkeeper staked a strong claim for a quick jump into the Third Division side. He followed his fine performance last week against the Managers X1 with another faultless display against Lincoln City Lobbett's efforts and those of the rest of City's solid looking defence enabled them to cross over at half time with a one goal lead, Lincoln equalised soon after the restart from a Bannon penalty after Walton had handled a centre from Gibson on the goalline, but within ten minutes City had the ball in the net twice from almost identical moves, identical also with the first goal scored after 30 minutes, each time Burke veered out to the right before beating Emery and hitting the ball across the goal, each time the ball reached Whiteside and each time he shot past Downie, Unfortunately for the hat trick seeking Whiteside the second of his attempts was ruled offside but there was no doubt that the other two goals were good ones. Once City had taken the lead for the second time, Lincoln did not treat the game as a friendly, they tried everything they knew to break down the City defence,
City scored again twelve minutes frm time when one of Murphy's clever, lobbed freekicks was met perfectly by Iggledon, who nodded into the roof of the netA good win by City and a surprisingly good game of football considering the conditions.
