Ralph Reed played for Exeter City in the Plymouth and District League before the club turned professional in 1908.

He made just two appearances for Exeter City, the first of which was against Green Waves (Plymouth) on 16 December 1905.

Playing once more in January 1906, he played representative football for East Devon whilst with the club prior to taking up rugby as his main sport.
