The changes certainly made the City forward line look more lke scoring than it did at Coventry on the season's opening day. It was no fault of Currie, Burke or Divers that the changes did not herald a fine First win for City, nor was it a fault of the strong Exeter defenceThe fault lay with the City wingers, here were two players without fight or punch and they failed to feed their inside men, They went through the match contributing nothing but isolated bursts to an otherwise good City performance, Burke worked tirelessly against the tall Norwich defence, a header had Oxford scrambling to save, as did an accurate lob from Simpson, Burke did however, miss the one good chance that City did have, taking a pass from Currie he shot a yard over the bar when well placed, Hunter behind a rarely beaten Exeter defence had little to do against the Norwich forwards who were held in check by the City halfback trioMitchell improved 100% on his Coventry form, Not at all a bad show by Exeter who had three quarters of the play.

Kidderminster H v Exeter City Res.
Southern League Match At Kidderminster
Driving rain for the first hour or so made things unpleasant for the players and crowd alike at Kidderminster, where Exeter City Reserves made better use of fewer chances to share the points with two goals apiece.
Kidderminster Harriers:- Pearson; Penman, Garvin; Hardy, Haycox, Millington; Graham, McCabe, Burns, Cocum, Hardiman.
Exeter City Reserves:- Lobbett; Foley, Ferrier; Packer, Harvey, Houghton; Grinney, Willis, Sword, Phoenix, Rees.
Only a weakness at centre-forward, where Sword could make nothing of Haycox, the home captain and the Southern League choice for centre- half in inter-league matches last season, prevented the City from capitalising on their better approach work. Phoenix and Rees, particularly the latter, were quick to the ball and made good use of it.
A GREAT CHANCE MISSED.
An example of their opportunism was the short corner they executed so quickly in the 35th minute that Ian Grinney, deputising for Thomas on the right wing, had headed the ball home before some of the Harriers defenders were properly in position. This gave Exeter a lead of 2-1 at half-time. Phoenix had earlier wiped out Kidderminster's lead, gained by Burns, who nipped in to score when Lobbett hesitated before coming out of his goal to gather a loose ball. Burns scored the only goal of the second half with a header, in the 57th minute. Grinney missed a great chance of winning the game for Exeter when he placed the ball the wrong side of the post after Willis had cut out a splendid opening.
