This was a fighting display by City, they battled furiously against top of the table Torquay, who were glad to totter off the field with a point. It was obviously City's best game of the season and it is equally obvious that if city kept it up more goals and more points are bound to come. After six hours and 22 minutes of football City finally got the ball into the net, no man deserved that distinction more than Burke, who has been City's best forward in every game this season Ted Calland toed the ball just inside the post ten minutes later to equalise and that was virtually the last time that the City goal was in danger, For the rest of the game Exeter were on the attack with Buckle leading raid after raid. He played his best game so far, but Phoenix on the left flank was weak, slow and often caught in possession, he had an unhappy home debut Behind the improved forward line was a six star City defence, Every man in it played well, for City it was a tremendously heartening performance, For Torquay it was bordering on disaster because it showed that they have lost much of the snap and vitality that made them promotion challengers last season.
