Report

EXETER CITY's immaculate away run continued as goals from Ollie Watkins and Jake Taylor saw off Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

City made three changes for this one, with Jordan Moore-Taylor back in the starting line-up and taking the captain's armband once again. David Noble and Jake Taylor were the other two players to come in, with Christian Ribeiro and David Wheeler on the bench. Yeovil made four changes to their own line-up, with former Grecian Artur Krysiak starting between the sticks.

With Yeovil having kept a large amount of clean sheets in recent weeks, City in form and both teams' managers being nominated for the Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month award for March, this was always going to be a competitive affair, but the first ten minutes were cagey; Ollie Watkins' booking for what referee Stephen Martin deemed to be simulation the only action of note. But it was five minutes after that that Watkins redeemed himself; a mazy, tricky run from Lee Holmes left his marker on his backside, and the City winner slipped it to Watkins to pull the trigger for the opener.

Former City keeper Krysiak was called into action twice in the space of a few minutes, as first Jake Taylor dribbled inside before firing a shot which the Polish stopper tipped onto the post, and then David Noble's low drive came his way. Jayden Stockley would ghost his way into the Yeovil box to smash a volley inches over, while Liam Shephard would shoot high and wide at the end of a rare Yeovil attack at the other end.

Yeovil's best chance so far came when Jordan Moore-Taylor was caught out of position ten minutes from the end of the period - a quick passing move led to Francois Zoko firing straight at Bobby Olejnik, who duly made the save. There were a worrying few moments when a collision left Olejnik in a heap five minutes from time, but after an inspection from the City physio, he was deemed okay to continue.

HALF-TIME: YEOVIL TOWN 0-1 EXETER CITY

Yeovil's Kevin Dawson hit one narrowly wide on the outside of his right foot as the second half got underway. Lee Holmes saw yellow for a foul wide-left of the Yeovil penalty area, before Jayden Stockley almost found the top-corner with a free-kick from a similar area.

As news began to filter through that results elsewhere had placed City in the top seven, the away fans grew louder and louder. They would have gone through the roof, if there was one, when Jake Taylor put the Grecians 2-0 up. After the Welsh international's first shot was saved by Krysiak, Taylor duly fired in the rebound, and the away end erupted. Taylor had a decent chance for another when a Lee Holmes corner went in from the right; it was half-cleared by the hosts, before Taylor's shot caused all kinds of confusion in the box.

Two crosses came into Bobby Olejnik's box with five minutes of the ninety to go, but neither caused the City number one any real issues. City were able to see out the match without too much trouble, and take another big step closer to the elusive seventh spot in the Sky Bet League 2 table.
