Luck and Hunter, Exeter's gallant goalkeeper were the factors that kept the Colchester score down to four goalsfor in the second half that proved a nightmare for the visitors, Colchester rarely relaxed in their biting attacks which always looked dangerousHunter earned praise from the home crowd time and time again as he saved from the goal hungry forwards, The win over Exeter brought the first double of the season for Colchester and they deserved it. The first half was a plodding, unspectacular event until three minutes before half time when Colchester were awarded a free kick 30 yards outFenton scored direct from it, his shot going over a crowded penalty area past the unsighted Hunter. From this moment there was new life in the game, Colchester took complete control, Plant added a second in the 43rd minute, The Essex side's other goals from McCurley in the 59th minute with a header from Hill's centre. In a hectic 20 minute spell after, Plant hit the post twice and Wright had a goal disallowed. On the few occasions that Exeter did break out, the attack lacked determination, Beer had to leave the field towards the end of the game, he had been l'imping for some time, and against ten City men, Plant added a fourth goal,

RARE ILLNESS PUTS SWORD OUT.
City's young reserve forward Alan Sword will be out of football for some time, He has been ill for a few weeks and a specialist called in to examine him has diagnosed a rare form of glandular fever. Sword has been ordered to stay indoors for a fortnight and to stay in bed as much as possible.
