Southern League
Yeovil (a)
CITY LEAD FOR 65 MINUTES BUT LOSE.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10TH: EXETER CITY 1 WATFORD 2.
Quite against the run of the play Watford scored two late goals to deprive Exeter City of a victory which had seemed assured. Exeter scored in the 21st minute. Hunter had gathered a shot by Cook and made a long clearance down the middle. With a Watford player on either side of him Thomas collected the ball and pulled it back from the goal-line, Currie tapping in from short range.
Twenty minutes after the interval Watford got the equaliser with the City defence in a tangle. Graham was the scorer. Three minutes before the final whistle Allen broke through on the right and rammed home the winning goal.
Exeter City:- Hunter; Doyle, Ferrier; mJohn, Harvey, Porteous; Buckle, Thomas, Currie, Willis, Rees.
Watford: Gooch; Shipwright, Harrop; Catleugh, Atkinson, Mitchell; Allen, Meadows, Cook, Graham, Walker.
The City had played well until Watford secured the equaliser and they then lost their edge and resorted to wild kicking. The Mitchell plan, with Currie doing the deep-lying bit, was adhered to, and Currie was in fact the best of the forwards. Thomas enjoyed his best game for a long time.
