HUNTER GIVE A BRILLIANT DISPLAY.
Both Exeter City and Ipswich Town players wore black armlets at the Portman Road ground today, as a mark of respect to the memory of the City director, Mr W.J.R.Heath, who died in the early hours of this morning, and before the teams kicked off they stood in the centre of the field to observe a minute's silence. After stopping in an Ipswich hotel overnight the Exeter City party heard the news this morning. Ronnie Burke returned to the City team after an absence of a couple of months through injury. He filled the inside-left position for the injured Jim Currie, the only change made by Exeter. Porteous neatly cut out the first raid by Ipswich and John repelled another probe before Hunter saved from Garneys. A nice move between Elsworthy and Leadbetter had Exeter wide open. Luckily the final pass ran out of play. A long ball upfield gave the City their first chance. Thomas was able to get clear of the Ipswich backs, but he delayed his centre for such a long time that Buckle was crowded out, and could not get his shot in.

EXETER CITY
Exeter City suffered their fourth defeat in the last four games, and they could not complain about this last one. Ipswich Town, playing some fine football, were the superior side from beginning to end, and fully deserved their goals, particularly in an all-out spell at the start of the second half when Hunter was beaten twice in just over a minute.
CITY FOUGHT BACK.
For most of the first half the City were in the game with chance, a and they fought back again in the last 15 minutes. Apart from that devastating second-half spell the City looked better than in their last three games. But there was a definite weakness at inside-forward once again. Thomas lacked thrust and ideas, and Burke was obviously still having a struggle to get fully fit after his long lay-off. Near the end the City tried some strange combinations with Doyle in the forward line, and he showed more ideas and more "bite" than any of the recognised forwards had done. The star of the match was Elsworthy, the Ipswich Town half-back, and as usual the star of Exeter City was George Hunter, who played one of his customary brilliant games in the last line of defence. The goals by which Ipswich won were obtained by Elsworthy 10 minutes before half-time, Phillips in 65 minutes and Millward in 66.

Exeter City Reseves v Weymouth
Exeter City Reserves after leading 3-1 were held to a draw of 3 goals each by Weymouth at St James's Park. Divers, Beer, and Houghton were the City's successful marksmen. Weymouth's goals were all obtained by Frost, who thus completed a "hat-trick."
WEYMOUTH RALLY MEANT PARK POINT
By J. P. DONALDSON (Express and Echo)
Weymouth fought back well to a 3-3 draw against Exeter City Reserves at St. James's Park on Saturday, although on the general showing there can't be much hope for them in their cup round with Southampton next Saturday. They were slow and disorganised in the first half when Exeter's style and speed was better than anything they have produced in weeks. The inter-passing between Houghton, Willis, and Beer was successful, and the forwards' fast sweeps upfield laid the Wevmouth defence wide open. The three goals in the first half by Divers. Willis. and Houghton might have been more. An upright and two goal-line clearances robbed Exeter, but in the second half, when Weymouth staged one of their famous recoveries. Bell's goal had equally lucky escapes. Only right winger MeGowan seemed to make much impression on the City defence in the first half and he produced the opening moves which led to the first two goals of centre-forward Frost's hat-trick. Despite the Weymouth recovery, Exete still had plenty of fight, but their efforts had lost the neat com- bination which had put them on top in the first half. Outstanding were Houghton and Phoenix-a brilliant wing-half.
City were unchanged from their previous match.
