Match 32
26th January 1957
Reading (h)

Southern League
Weymouth (a)

SATURDAY JAN. 26TH 1957.

EXETER CITY 1 (REES)
READING 1 (WHITEHOUSE).
ST JAMES'S PARK, EXETER,

It looked like another bleak day for Exeter City's finances to day, when half an hour prior to the kick-off at the very most two thousand people were inside the ground. And the turnstiles were clicking very very slowly. Buckle and Porteous were dropped and were replaced by Rees and Divers.

EXETER CITY:- Hunter; Mitchell, Ferrier; Lackenby, Harvey, Packer; Thomas, Divers, Currie, John, Rees.

READING:- Meeson; McLaren, Reeves; Cronin, Spiers, Evans; Campbell, Whitehouse, Dixon, Leach, Wheeler.

The visitors were lucky to keep a point after a grand fight back by Exeter in the second half. Once Rees had put the City on terms seven minutes after the interval Reading were rarely in the game. In the Exeter forward line Divers was outstanding, as was Lackenby in the defence. Reading's goal was scored ten minutes before half-time.

Southern League
Weymouth v Exeter City Reserves

Exeter City Reserves, at Weymouth, were beaten by 4 goals (Henderson 2,1 from a penalty, Fagan, and Foley own goal off Stocker) to 1, scored by Simpson towards the end.
