Match 37

5th March 1957
Southern League
Worcester City (h)

SATURDAY MARCH 2ND

AT ST JAMES'S PARK

EXETER CITY 3
(JOHN 2, HARVEY PENALTY)
SWINDON TOWN 2.

Attendance 6000.

When Keith Harvey scored from a hotly disputed penalty ten minutes from time two vital points seemed, to say the least, likely for the City. But dramatically nearer to the end Swindon were given their chance, when they too were awarded a penalty. But George Hunter, that grand goalkeeper, who has so many times saved Exeter City, did it again. He made a thrilling save to the rasping
shot by Edwards and pushed the ball round the post for a corner that was safely kicked away. The penalty from which Harvey scored the winning goal was strongly disputed by Swindon. It came when Willis challenged the goalkeeper and was injured. The referee gave a spot-kick, ruling that Burton had fouled Willis, who had frequently persisted in harassing the goalkeeper throughout the game. Swindon's goals were obtained by Richards and Edwards.

Exeter City:- Hunter; Lackenby, Ferrier; John, Harvey, N.Simpson; Buckle, Currie, Willis, Mitchell, Rees.
Swindon:- Burton; Cress, Earl; Fountain, Jack, Pembury; Owen, Richards, Micklewright, Edwards, D'Arcy.

Referee:- Mr C.G.Porter of Taunton. Linesmen:- Messrs H.V.Gisborne and D.Silverton.
