BOURNEMOUTH & BOSCOMBE (Bedford, Arnett, Newsham penalty)
EXETER CITY (Currie)

Attendance 11,257. Referee Mr Pullin.

BOURNEMOUTH:- Godwin; Lyons, Woollard; Clayton, Hughes, Brown; Stiffle, Bedford, Arnott, Newsham, Cutler.
EXETER:- Hunter; Mitchell, Ferrier; John, Harvey, N.Simpson; Buckle, Currie, Lackenby, Willis, Rees.

But for some dogged defence by City, Bournemouth could well have doubled their tally, for the home side missed several chances and Hunter made some great saves. Often in midfield City looked as calm and confident as Bournemouth with John and Simpson tackling strongly and trying to use the ball, but when it got forward, well that was the finish. Strange but true City not only scored their goal, but they looked more dangerous in the 2nd half, when they were without Ferrier who had been carried off a minute before half time. Centre forward Lackenby dropped back to Full back and looked a lot happier. While City had possessed not one dangerous first half forward, Currie impressed a lot when Citys front line numbered four. From the other forwards came little except the fine move which led to Exeters 62nd minute goal. Buckle switched to the left at half time, moved across to the right to push the ball to Rees and ran on down the right wing. Rees hit the ball through to him, then Buckle crossed it for Currie to head in. That goal came two minutes after Bournemouths 3rd, hit from the penalty spot by Newsham. Bedford in the first minute and Arnott were the other Bournemouth scorers. The interchanging of Bedford, Newsham and Arnott were a constant menace to the City defence. Harvey had one of his worst games of the season.
