After a grim and tense battle, City earned two very valuable points to ease their re-election fears, The first half produced nothing startling with City if anything slightly the better team but not impressing at all near goal. Then with seconds to go before half time Shrewsbury took a shock lead, Weigh heading in from close range, that lead lasted until 16 minutes into the second half when City were awarded a penalty, Harvey lined up to take the most important penalty of his career, he triumphed over any nerves he may have had and City were level. A few minutes later Exeter were in front as Lackenby headed in a centre from Currie

City stayed deservedly in front as they swarmed around the Shrewsbury goal for the next ten minutes, but they were unable to add to their tally, Shrewsbury fought back in the last 15 minutes with even more venom than City had shown. The City defence did a tremendous job in that period, not all pretty to watchpoints were needed and if neccessary the ball was booted anywhere by a grateful City defender. They held out and gained a valuable victory.

Team:- Bell; John and Mitchell; Packer, Harvey, and Noel Simpson; Thomas, Lackenby, Currie, Churms, and Buckle.
