City are bound to regret the large retained list, they have not left much room for team building and the new manager is going to find himself left with a fair proportion of players he does not want and for whom he can find no use.
City's winghalf or inside forward John Porteous is to start work next week in Devonport Dockyard, he is an electrician, He is on the Exeter City open to transfer list, Former City winger Charlie McClelland, 30 years old, has been placed on the Worcester City open to transfer list, he made eleven appearances scoring two goals for the Southern League side and was leading scorer for the reserve side with 27 goals. Free transfers from Bridgwater Town include ex City players Barney Singleton and Angus Mackay

CITY MANAGER TO BE NAMED.
Exeter City F.C, are expected to announce the name of a new manager by the end of the week, Among those names linked with the post are Douglas HuntTonbridge manager and former Sheffield Wednesday and Leyton Orient forward and Frank Broome of Notts County.

EXETER'S NEW MANAGER NAMED.
Bill Thompson, 35, Guildford City's manager is the new Exeter City manager, he starts his duties on Monday subject to official release from Guildford. Glasgow born he began his career with Portsmouth as an amateur in the early days of the war. In 1943 he signed professional and made many first team appearances, He was a member of the Championship winning side, After a two years spell at Bournemouth he became the Guildford manager in 1955That season Guildford won the Southern League ChampionshipHe is a qualified F,A,Coach and a County referee. The City chairman Mr A.S.Line said Mr Thompson will manage with a completely free hand and was sure he is the type of man who will work for the benefitt of the club, Ted Buckle has been placed on the open to transfer list. He was previously retained by City.

CITY F. C. PLAYERS FACE WAGE CUTS.
Several of the players on the Exeter City retained list are facing sizeable wage cuts and are not likely to accept terms, Despite the fact that 24 players are retained it is expected a number will want to move on, Others are still in the services. So the number of players available could be somewhat reduced, It was revealed today by the Exeter City chairman Mr S,A,Line that the City skipper Noel Simpson was among the applicants for the managers job,

NOT AFTER MITCHELL OF ARGYLE.
Exeter City chairman Mr A.S.Line denied today a rumour that the club had signed or were trying to sign 24 year old Plymouth Argyle wing half Reg Mitchell. He was a regular in Argyle's combination side last season and is on the transfer list.
