Having already appeared for St Sidwell’s United, George Russell featured during the first season of the recently-renamed Exeter City in 1904/05. He continued to play for the first-team until 1906/07.
He played for St Sidwell’s United from 1902/03 and made his first appearance for the renamed Exeter City against St Luke’s College on 8 October 1904. Playing ten times that season, he was an ever-present in the Plymouth and District League in 1905-06 and played a further nine times in 1906/07.
The 1901 census records a George Russell (16) working as a printer’s apprentice and living in St Sidwell’s Street, Exeter. Other public records suggest he died in Exeter in 1958.
