Ted Calland stands as Exeter City's leading scorer with ten League and Cup goals, not a particularly high figure but the important fact is Calland has turned in a series of good performances since manager Frank Broome pulled him out of the reserve side six weeks ago. This was a tight, tense, tough victory with

Calland's trio of goals and another by Mitchell only just keeping Exeter ahead, With 67 minutes gone, City leading 4-2 it looked as if we were in for a hatful of goals for City were punching away at Colchester furiously, then out of the blue Evans scored for the visitors and the game changed dramatically. Colchester attacked continuously and City had to fight a rearguard action, Plant and Langman had scored earlier for Colchester and were both looking for further successes,

City did manage to hang on and win despite so many players having poor to middling games, only John, Oliver and Calland impressed constantly, though no one can say that effort was not there, for it was tenacious trying which squeezed City through another stiff barrier to their late season revival.
