BOSCOMBE COMPLETE DOUBLE OVER THE CITY
All the Goals in 4 Minutes
Saturday March 8th.
EXETER CITY 1
(Calland)
BOURNEMOUTH & BOSCOMBE 2
(Bedford 2).
Played at St James's Park, attendance 8,000.
The City were beaten and they thoroughly deserved to be at the Park this afternoon by a far stronger, faster, and more skilful side. By winning this game by 2 goals to 1 Bournemouth completed the double over Exeter, having won by the same score in October on their own ground.
Bournemouth were the most unsporting team to visit Exeter for some time, From start to finish they persisted in time wasting tactics and they were constantly disputing the referee's decisions, City were beaten and looked a feeble team, right back to their mid season, rock bottom form and were lucky to get away with a narrow defeat against Bournemouth who were always on top. The visitors scored both goals shortly before half time, Bedford opened the scoring in the 41st minute, cutting off a Rees back pass, three minutes later the same player moved into the middle to touch the ball past the advancing Hunter. MacDonald booted the ball into the air and Bedford following up nodded into goal, Between those two goals had come a fine run by Dale, an accurate centre and a flashing header By Calland which equalised for two minutes and raised City's hopesApart from that only Mitchell's shot that hit the post in the first half and a brief second half flurry bothered Boscombe and it is no wonder because City's whole team was an out of touch shambles.
City: Hunter; Foley, MacDonald; John, Oliver, Mitchell; Rees, Churms, Calland, Nicholls, Dale.
Boscombe:- Godwin; Thomas, Woolard; Rule, Burgess, Brown; Hampson, Dowsett, Bedford, Arnott, Cutler.
All the goals were scored in the last four minutes of the first half, Bedford, Calland, and Bedford again finding the net in that order.
