LAST MINUTE GOAL GIVES GRECIANS THE VICTORY.
After some very poor finishing for most of the game, Exeter City beat Coventry at St James's Park this afternoon by the only goal scored, a grand shot by Calland a mere 30 seconds from time. Cold, dull weather greeted the spectators, and one lady supporter in the grandstand carried two hot water-bottles wrapped in a blanket. A foul by Calland on Curtis stopped the City's first raid down the right, but some very smart work on the Coventry left had Exeter in trouble until Oliver came across with a strong tackle. Then it was the turn of Exeter's left flank to come into action after an interception by MacDonald, and as Calland moved in for Dale's centre Ashcroft had to rush out and boot the ball away. Coventry were leaving huge gaps in midfield and Ashcroft had to fist out a centre from Stiffle as the ball was regularly taken towards the visitors' goal. The game was becoming completely one-sided, but the City's ineptitude in front of goal prevented them from going ahead.
City: Hunter; Foley, MacDonald; John, Oliver, Mitchell; Stiffle, Wilson, Calland, Churms, Dale.
Coventry:- Ashcroft; Harvey, Shepherd; Nicholas, Curtis, Jamieson; Smith, Straw, Rogers, Hill, Boxley.
The City's defence, which was strong with MacDonald outstanding, had hardly a thing to do as the home side pressed on the Coventry goal for practically the whole of the 90 minutes. Dale was brilliant, with Stiffle also dangerous on the right, but the inside-forward trio never looked like scoring. The two points gained by Calland's last minute goal may quite easily save Exeter City from having to make an application for re-election.
The attendance was 5,304.

HILL GETS THE WINNER FOR CITY RESERVES.
Hereford entertained Exeter City Reserves in a Southern League match today. Exeter were the more polished side, and their form belied their lowly position in the League. Three minutes from the end Hill scored the winner for Exeter.
