THURSDAY AUGUST 28TH
CITY LEAD THE 4TH DIVISION AND DALE SCORES.
TRIP NORTH WILL START ON THE RIGHT NOTE.
EXETER CITY 4 BARROW 0.
It is hard to believe after the dismal failures of last season but having beaten Walsall 3-0 and Barrow 4-0 Exeter City stand proudly today, undisputed leaders of the Fourth Division.
City: Hunter; Foley, MacDonald; Mitchell, Oliver, Harvey; Stiffle, Nicholls, Calland, Rees, Dale.
Barrow:- Armstrong; Simpson, McCredie; Proctor, Wilson, Keen; Rolfe, Roberts, Torrance, Robertson, Porter.
Referee:- Mr G.W.Pullin of Bristol.
The crowd of nearly nine thousand went home happy with the result if not the game. The trouble was two-fold. Barrow's game depended on long kicking and furious running and Exeter followed suit for half an hour. But once Rees had netted the opening goal in the 32nd minute Exeter started to play football and that was the end of Barrow. Exeter's second goal was scored by Calland and their third by Dale, his first for the City since joining from Portsmouth last season. Harvey ten minutes from the end headed a grand fourth goal from Stiffle's centre. The City leave tomorrow for the first of their Northern matches and they could hardly leave in a more successful atmosphere.

LOBBETT'S BIG PART IN AWAY DRAW.

Exeter City: Lobbett; Rutter, Whitnall; Butterworth, Packer, Carberry; Atkins, Hill, Rapley, Robinson, Rackley.
