CITY SLIP AFTER LEADING TWICE AT CHESTER.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22ND

CHESTER 4 EXETER CITY 2
.

Chester gave their best performance of the season this afternoon when before a crowd of 8,000 they beat their visitors, Exeter City, by four goals to two, after the Devon club had twice led. Hunter had a busy time in goal with Chester frequently getting the better of the City defence.

There was a shock for the home side however in the first minute when Exeter took the lead. Rees sent the ball across the penalty area to Nicholls, who was unmarked, and with the home defence all at sea the Exeter inside-left fired home a simple goal.

Chester:- Howells; Hughes, Suter; Hunt, Saunders, Mason; Foulkes, Bullock, Webster, Pearson, Richards.

Exeter City: Hunter; Foley, MacDonald; Mitchell, Oliver, John; Stiffle, Rees, Calland, Nicholls, Dale. Calland put Exeter in front again after Richards had scored a goal for

Chester. Then Bullock and Webster got the goals by which Chester led at the interval, 3-2. Chester were the stronger side after the interval and deservedly went ahead through Webster in the 67th minute.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
CITY RESERVES 2 DARTFORD 1.

Conditions were hardly ideal for either playing football or watching it at St James's Park this afternoon, a storm of icy rain sweeping the ground as the players came out.

City: Lobbett; Rutter, Whitnall; Butterworth, Packer, Cleverly; Atkins, Pulman, Hill, Rapley, Cruz.
Dartford: Underwood; Asher, Engelfield; Hill, Smailes, Veitch; Clarke, Harris, Huckstepp, Goodfellow, Adams.

Referee:- Mr D. Hodges of Dorchester.

As the Reserves attacked and Hill was just beaten to the ball by the Dartford backs Rutter moved up and drove in a shot that flew back off the goal angle-iron. Then Butterworth showed his forwards the way with a long shot that

was only a couple of feet wide of the target. After a drab first half the City stepped up their pace in the second, Rapley and Pulman scoring in quick succession. After Hill had missed two chances of putting Exeter further in front
Huckstepp headed a goal for Dartford ten minutes from time.
