EXETER CITY 2
(Calland, Micklewright)
STOCKPORT COUNTY 1
(Davock)
Played at St James's Park,
WEDNESDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER 1959.
EXETER HANG ON FOR FINE VICTORY.
Once again it was Micklewright who saved the game for City and once again City must come in for some criticism over their finishing. Not even Micklewright can escape it, for he was the main culprit in the first half, He missed a glorious chance in the 23rd minute with only the goalkeeper to beat and two minutes later Davock nipped in to put Stockport into the lead with City appealing for offside.
Exeter were the better side up to the goalmouth and they even corrected that fault after Calland had two headers and Micklewright a shot saved, then Calland got back into last season's form and hammered in a perfect ball from Thompson,
After half time, for ten minutes Stockport gave City a roasting, then Micklewright stepped into the scoring picture with a great angled shot in the 58th minute. Even 'this though was a result of a bad defensive blunder and City still could not finish off with a roked for goal.

CUP TRIUMPH
Barry Town 3, Exeter City Reserves
The issue was in doubt until the last few minutes. Earlier 19- year-old Dave Mohoney. making his Southern League Cup debut was impressive. Centre-forward Laurie Sheffield was in match winning mood for Barry but lacked support. He gave them the lead with an acrobatic header in the 25th minute. Then, after Alan.Finlay had added a second in the 87th minute, Sheffield burst through down the centre to score a good second goal.
Exeter Reserves
Jones; Rutter, Packer; Butterworth, Rapley, Cleverley; Atkins, Pulman, Bennett, Hill, Rackley.
