Match 23
28th November 1959
Rochdale (a)
ROCHDALE 3 EXETER CITY 0
AT ROCHDALE.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 28TH
CITY RARELY DANGEROUS.
Although Exeter City as a team are generally playing as well as they did last season they are not enjoying the same success. With 22 matches played they are in the bottom half of the table and have accumulated only 20 points, 8 wins and 4 draws. Walsall, with 34 points, are leaders, and they are followed by Torquay, Millwall, and Carlisle, each with 29. So Exeter have a lot to make up if they are to be concerned with promotion this season.
Rochdale:- J.Jones; Edwards, Powell; Bodell, Milburn, Bushby; Barnes, Spencer, Anderson, Cairns, Collins.
City:- A.Jones; Foley, MacDonald; Mitchell, Oliver, Thompson; Atkins, Rees, Wilkinson, Calland, Dale.
Exeter City found themselves no match for a speedy Rochdale side on the Spotland ground and were deservedly beaten by three clear goals after being one goal in arrears at the interval. Exeter lacked midfield punch and their defence was over-worked. The forward line was rarely dangerous.
