City's biggest defeat of the season, Watford got two points and their inside left Hoiton got the match ball after scoring twice and breaking a 32 year old record of 27 goals for the seasonWhat did City get a lot less credit than they deserved, for it was all one way traffic, Wilkinson shot Exeter into an early lead, then disaster struck City, Jones suffered a leg injury and was left hobbling in goal for the next 80 minutesThe City defence had to work overtime to cover him and keep his work down to a minimum, They held out until the 39th minute when Uphill equalised. City fought back and regained the lead through Stiffle. Just before half time Holton levelled the scores again from the penalty spot, The second half was hard work for City, Hartle scored in the 61st minute to give Watford the lead for the first time, but it was not until the 83rd minute that Holton made it 4-1 and in the last minute Uphill scored the fifthA good game to watch and a credit to City who fought gamely under a severe handicap,

Match Summary
At the Vicarage-road ground this afternoon Exeter City led twice in the first half, but an injury to their goalkeeper proved a serious handicap and in the end the "Hornets" triumphed by 5 to 2. Exeter's goals were obtained by Wilkinson and Stiffle. Cliff Holton and Dennis Uphill, who have scored more goals between them than the entire City line-up, both added to their tally today with a couple each. Hartle got the other Watford goal

Maurice Setters, 22, the W.B.A, and England Under 23 captain, today signed for Manchester United for a fee between £25,000 and £30,000. Maurice joined W,B,A from Exeter City in 1955,
