A lively Exeter City easily inflicted Carlisle's fourth consecutive home defeat, Carlisle's troubles started in the 7th minute when City took a quick lead, then ten minutes later their right winger Murray had to leave the field with a muscle injury. The home side did well to keep the Exeter score down to a lone goal at the interval, having to thank their goalkeeper Thompson, Against the City forwards, the Carlisle defence had to work hard, for in spite of the very soft playing surfaceExeter showed that good football was possible under such conditionsFive minutes into the second half Carlisle's luck really turned against them when with McMillan being carried off to take no further part in the game reducing them to nine fit men plus a hobbling MurrayIt did not take City long to cash in on their numerical superiority and it came as no surprise when they added a furrther three goalsWith the odds stacked so heavily against them, Carlisle just did not have a chance,

Match Summary

Exeter City, who suffered their first home defeat of the season at the hands of Carlisle, took their revenge today. They won easily by four clear goals on the Northerners' ground. At the interval the City led by three goals, scored by Wilkinson, Stiffle, and Calland. Rees got the fourth afterwards. The City's attack, which contains three recognised centre forwards, was reshuffled again, but the only change was in goal, where Jones was preferred to Lobbett.

Romford v City Reserves

At Romford the City Reserves missed many chances and were held to a goalless draw. A point of interest is that the Romford club is managed by Jack Chisholm, the old Argyle centre half.
