Saturday 6th February 1960
Exeter City 3 Notts County 3

Attendance: 8,000

If there was value for money in a Fourth Division match, it was provided by Exeter City and Notts County. The 3-3 draw gave the St James' Park supporters goals, good football and great entertainment.

In fact City fans had everything they wanted except for a victory. The Grecians did everything except win. Graham Rees shot City into a 4th minute lead and at that stage Exeter kept moving forward, apart from the occasional County attack.

Bircumshaw equalised for the visitors in the 14th minute, but just two minutes later City were back in front through Jack Wilkinson.

In the 37th minute Joyce scored to make it 2-2, and then for the only time in the match, County took the lead. Bircumshaw notched his second goal five minutes before the break.

Not to be outdone, Wilkinson netted his second goal of the match in the 74th minute, and it was a well deserved City equaliser. County got in a total of four dangerous attacks in the first half and they scored three goalsIt is a good side who can make odds like that turn in their favour. Sometimes City held the ball too long and made too many movesSometimes they were not direct enough. County covered well and there again City did endure some bad luck. Had it gone the Grecians way, then City would have won by a three of four goal margin, that their midfield play promised

Exeter City: Lobbett; Butterworth, Whitnall; Williams, Rapley, Cleverly; Atkins, Pulman, Emery, Hill, Rackley.

Burton enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges but Emery gave the City Reserves the lead with a nice goal midway through the opening half. Davis with a penalty levelled the scores, and the home side after some rousing play in the second half won the game in the 65th minute when Grainger scored from close range.
