ANOTHER WIN FOR THE GRECIANS. JENKINS SHINES AGAINST BARROW.

Saturday August 26th 1961.

EXETER CITY 3 (Blue, Gordon, Jenkins) BARROW 0

Played at St James's Park, attendance 6,153.

Exeter City:- Jones; Hudson and MacDonald; Wilson, Harvey, and Sullivan; Rees, Gordon, Blue, Carter, and Jenkins.

Barrow:- Coglan; Richardson and Cahill; Clark, McEvoy, and Hale; Lowes, Darwin, Robertson, Brown, and Kemp.

Referee:- Mr D.W. Smith of Stonehouse. Linesmen:- Messrs T.Bishop and E.F.Ley.

The City in a convincing performance against Barrow, scored in the seventh minute and twice more in the second half. The game nevertheless had several long dull patches with neither side knowing quite what to do with the ball when they had it. But it turned into a really clear cut victory for the Grecians and a triumph for Jenkins, who must definitely be rated as Exeter's star summer signing. Defensively the City did not have a lot to worry about, and in any case they were very cool whenever Barrow were dangerous, which was not often. Keith Harvey saw to it that Robertson got few chances to do anything. The forwards have now scored seven goals in two games this week, and with two men, Rees and Gordon, not in their proper positions it is a pretty good performance.

  • In the Exeter and District League Cullompton at Cullompton beat the
City Reserves by six goals to one.
