Wrexham, who are second in the League table, were beaten on their own ground today by Exeter City, who are ninth, and it was a well deserved victory for the Grecians. Despite a wet, misty afternoon, there was a big crowd, estimated at about thirteen thousand at the start. They were soon applauding Wrexham, whose classy football has put them well in the running for honours this season. A shot from 30 yards by Metcalf had Alan Jones leaping across his goal as the ball whizzed just past the upright. Then Jones was in action again, having to save from Ken Barnes and Metcalf. Exeter's only response in the early stages was a header by Carter following a corner which Johnson held without difficulty. But four minutes later Wrexham were shocked when Blue crossed the ball from the wing and Carter's header found the net just below the crossbar and well out of the reach of Johnson. It was the prelude to a great victory by Exeter.
