EXETER'S TURN TO STEAL A POINT. JENKINS HURT IN COLLISION WITH PERIMETER WALL.

Just as Southport stole a point at St James's Park last Tuesday so did Exeter at Haig-avenue six days later. In the last twenty minutes the City defence was under constant and unrelenting pressure. But until that Southport rally Exeter had been much the better of the two sides. They played the more attractive football, finding their men with slick passes, whereas the home players frequently misplaced their passes, thus feeding the opposition. Southport, who had convincingly defeated Colchester, the Fourth Division leaders, on Saturday, were much below form. They started brightly enough and took the lead in the 17th minute, the result of a spectacular shot from Jimmy Blain, their best forward. But Exeter hit back and had the home defence in a tangle when they deservedly equalised in the 23rd minute. Late in the game Jenkins collided with the brick wall surrounding the pitch and hurt his leg. He was taken by ambulance to Southport Infirmary, where an X-ray revealed no apparent injury.
