Played at St James's Park, attendance 6,424.

Unbeaten in their previous home games this season, the Grecians suffered a crushing defeat by Doncaster Rovers this afternoon. Brian Jenkins reported 100 per-cent fit following his mis-hap at Southport, and the City line-up was unchanged. Everything went wrong for Exeter City in this match. They were in it with a chance until Swallow's headed goal in the 64th minute, which put Doncaster ahead by 3 - 1, then it was all over, and in the remaining third of the game the attacking methods adopted by the visitors, which were long low passes to the wingers and fast centres to the men in the middle cut Exeter's defence to ribbons. The small City forwards were too easily brushed aside by the tall and hefty members of the Rovers' defence, and although Blue and Gordon worked very hard the City attack failed badly as a unit. The City's home run had to end some time, but nobody expected it to end like this.

  • Exeter City Reserves won their Exeter & District League match against Seaton at Seaton by 3 goals to one.
