Played at St James's Park, attendance 4,948.

Accrington Stanley:- A.Smith; Forrester and Walton, Hamilton, Wilson, and Cuddihey; Bennett, Milner, W.Smith, Ferguson, and Pickup.

Referee:- Mr H.G.New of Havant.

Exeter City scored what must have been the fastest goal of the season when Ray Carter headed them into the lead after ten seconds at St James's Park this afternoon. The ball had been pushed back to Sullivan from the kick off, he put it through to Jenkins, and Carter ran in to nod home the winger's centre without an Accrington man touching the ball. Two other goals were scored by Exeter to round off one of the best displays of the season, and the Lancastrians returned home a well beaten side.

  • Before the kick-off the City chairman, Mr R. Rose, presented Keith Harvey with a £200 benefit cheque.
But once the teams were out all eyes were on the City's new right winger, John McMillan, the club's fourth signing from Cardiff City this year. Well built for a winger, and a former Scottish amateur international, McMillan joined Cardiff from Dumbarton four years ago, but has had few opportunities at Ninian Park. But he played up well for his new club today.
