COLCHESTER UNITED (Robert Hunt 2)

Played at St James's Park, attendance 4,530.

Colchester were flattered by the result of their match at Exeter this afternoon, a 2-0 win over the City, for it was the City who had the best of the game, and only poor finishing in front of the visitors' goal prevented them scoring several times. Colchester's two goals came in the 67th and 76th minutes, both by Robert Hunt. Once again the City paid the penalty of missing their early and best chances, and once again they got a lesson in opportunism from the other side. The defence cannot be blamed as they held Colchester so well for most of the match, and Sullivan in particular was outstandingly cool. But the City's inside forwards were not good enough when they got near goal, so the team took another beating which was undeserved on the play and which flattered the opposition.

  • Exeter and District League:- Exeter City Reserves, playing on the college ground, forced a draw with St Luke's, 2-2, after being 1-2 behind in the second half.
