St Marks v Exeter City
PENALTY GIVES CITY THE EQUALISER. BUT MORE BAD MISSES IN FRONT OF GOAL.
Saturday December 9th 1961.
CHESTER 1 (Morris)
EXETER CITY 1 (Harvey penalty)
Played at Sealand-road, attendance 3,000.
Chester:- Hardie; Hughes and Donaldson; Hennin, Kennedy, and Edwards; Cooper, Cartlidge, Morris, White, and Jones.
Exeter City: Tinsley; Hudson and MacDonald; Hughes, Harvey, and Sullivan; Welsh, Gordon, Blue, Carter, and Jenkins.
Referee:- Mr L.Callaghan of Merthyr.
Chester took the lead after 19 minutes in their home match with the City this afternoon but had to be content with a draw. Exeter's forwards again made many bad misses in front of goal, and it was a penalty kick in the 70th minute that put them level. Fred Donaldson, who was a forward with Port Vale and Exeter City, played at left back for Chester. Blue, Carter, and Gordon all missed "sitters" at close range, and had they not done so Exeter would have won hands down. Chester lost all idea after the interval, and it was practically "one-way traffic" towards their goal.
- Immediately after the game Mr Glen Wilson was planning to travel on to Liverpool to be interviewed for the vacant managership of the Tranmere Rovers club.
Exeter and District League
St Marks v City Reserves
At Countess Wear the City Reserves found St Mark's a very different proposition from the team which they beat 5-0 at St James's Park a few weeks ago. Although Burnett equalised Priddle's first goal for the "Saints" the home team secured the winner in the second half.
