Exeter City this afternoon beat Mansfield Town by 2 goals to 1 and it was a win that the Grecians thoroughly deserved. Crediton born Keith Harvey made his 250th League appearance for the City, and was the centre of a defence which seemed at the kick-off to be in for a hard time against the star Mansfield wingers Mike Stringfellow, for whom Leicester City have offered over £20,000, and Ken Wagstaff, and an attack which would no doubt be bolstered by the return of their old wing half, Sam Chapman, who yesterday returned from Portsmouth in exchange for a £4,000 transfer fee. Mansfield, who did plenty of the attacking play in the first half, were unlucky that Morris injured his thigh in that period and went on the right wing afterwards, but this was still a good result for the City, for whom Welsh was outstanding both in an attacking and at times a defensive role. The defence played very well, especially Hudson, who blocked just about every one of Stringfellow's efforts with hard and well timed tackles.
