Match 37
February 3rd 1962.
Tranmere Rovers (h)

EXETER CITY 1 (Carter)
TRANMERE ROVERS

SATURDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 1962.

SUCCESS OVER TRANMERE.

Exeter City won their first game for four matches, against Tranmere Rovers who were visiting St James's Park for the first time, City attacked for most of the time and there was some very fine defensive work when Tranmere moved forward. There was however, some very depressing and disheartening finishing by the City attack, They created chances but squandered them with poor marksmanship,

It was not a great match, entertainment wise, but it had its moments of good football and its seconds of excitement, when Jenkins hit the winner seven minutes frm time, justice was done. The Northerners were not easy to beat, they were a strong side, yet City made a half dozen chances to their one, Several dead ball moves which City had been working on in training were put into practice,

The men who impressed in the City side were the halfback trio, In a good defence they were outstanding, Harvey never put a foot wrong, Hughes worked like a Trojan and Sullivan was his usual imaculate self, the master of any situation. One player to disappoint was Brown, who had an off day, his worst game since coming to City.
