Devon Professional Bowl semi final.
TUESDAY 20th MARCH 1962.
City beat First Division chasing Plymouth Argyle by two clear goals and it was no fluke. The Argyle played some good football, they were more consistent than City and they had just as much of the play, but just for once, it wasExeter who took their chances, city too played some crisp stuff and moved into spaces for the ball, The result was that inside ten minutes they were in front, Welsh nodding past a sprawling MacLaren from a cross by Blue, Before half time Plymouth hit back with a well taken goal from Anderson own as the game went on in a cut and thrust series of moves, the city started to tire but held their well enough,, 15 minutes from the end, Welsh scored again, this time with a low shot that seemed to bounce over MacLaren's body. Then to make sure of things, Jenkins scored City's third goal, the best of the game, bath a crashing shot from 25 yards, City were never two goals better than Argyle, but they did play better than they have done for some time.
