Match 54
April 23rd 1962.
Millwall (h)
EXETER CITY (Carter)
MILLWALL (Townsend)
MONDAY 23rd APRIL 1962.
REES NEVER LET UP, CITY GET VITAL POINT.
Rees has plenty of critics among the St James's Park followers, but if all Exeter City's forwards had shown as much energy and goal sense all through this season as he did in this game with Millwall, the club would not be wondering and worrying about having to apply for re-election, City came off surprisingly well against the table toppersd and when half time came they had by far the majority of the play. Then came the period when City fail so often, the start of the second half and they did it again, they let Millwall get on top and as their defence got tangled up, Townend pumped a 57th minute shot into the back of the net, City started to go flat out again and after a series of frustrating mistakes and scrambles, Carter neatly lobbed a Sullivan cross over Davies's head for a deserved equaliser, As far as the City were concerned, man of the match was Harvey who marked the Millwall danger man Terry right out of the game, Sullivan and Mitchell were consistently, steady, Rees gave an outstanding display in the forward line and was unlucky not to score on two occasions,
