GRAHAM REES THE STAR IN CITY'S FIRST WIN. EXETER RECOVER AFTER POOR START.

Wednesday August 31st 1960.

EXETER CITY 1 (Rees)
WREXHAM 0

Played at St James's Park, attendance 6,138.

Exeter City: Lobbett; Foley and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Thompson; Harrison, Gordon, Wilkinson, Rees, and Dale.

Wrexham:- Johnson; Holland and McGowan; Davis, Fox, and Styles; G.Jones, Griffiths, Davies, Harbertson, and Hunter.

Referee:- Mr C.W.Kingston of Newport. Linesmen:- Messrs E.F.Ley and H.G.Stenner.

Graham Rees gave Exeter City their first win of the season when he whipped in the only goal of the game with Wrexham. Apart from that he put in an ever-trying, never-tiring, non-stop 90 minutes of energetic and skilful play, and made almost every scoring attempt that came from the City attack.

But that is far from being the story of the match. Exeter started so badly that Wrexham made rings round them, and only a brilliant last-ditch interception by Lovett stopped Harbertson scoring in the seventh minute. Luckily this let-off woke the City up. They started to move to the ball and then they started to get results. And from then on it became a good game between two teams trying to play better football than the Fourth Division desperation usually allows.
