EXETER CITY HOLD OUT TILL HALF TIME. MITCHELL INJURED AND BRADFORD SCORE FOUR IN SECOND HALF.
Saturday September 17th 1960.
BRADFORD 5 (Reilly, Anders 2, Buchanan 2)
EXETER CITY 2 (Donaldson 2)
Played at Park Avenue, attendance 6,000.
Bradford:- Gebbie; Baker, and Lawton;
Atkinson, McCalman, and Dick; Gibson, Buchanan, Allan, Reilly, and Anders.
Exeter City:- Lobbett; Whitnall, and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Thompson; Harrison, Donaldson, Wilkinson, Gordon, and Rees.
Referee:- Mr T.Reynolds of South Stanley.
Exeter's run of bad luck continued at Bradford, where Mitchell was injured in the second half. He carried on but was obviously under a considerable handicap and was of little use.
How far the result was influenced by Mitchell's mishap is a point for conjecture, but the fact remains that until he was hurt the City were in front, and it is inconceivable that they would have crashed to such a heavy defeat had the side remained at its full strength.
As it was the game became an unequal struggle in the second half, and it was when Exeter were down to ten men in the last half hour that Bradford scored their last three goals.

Exeter City Reserves v Poole Town
By Tony Court (Express and Echo 17/09/1960)
Recovered from the slight concussion that he got at Yeovil on Thursday night, Peter Williams turned out for the City Reserves in their Western League game against Poole Reserves at St. James's Park this afternoon.
Exeter City Res.: Jones; Foley, Packer; Williams, P., Williams, A., Grant; Welsh, D. Symes, Bennett, P Sokell, T. Irons.
Poole Town Res.: Ferris; Stevens. Earl; Scott, Robinson, Norton; Rosen, Smith, McConnon, Steele, Hayward.
Referee: Mr. W. M. Webster (Torquay).
Peter Bennett seemed to be the Reserves' main danger man, and in the first seven minutes he got in two headers and a shot. Seven of the Reserves had had League experience of one sort or another, and it didn't look as if they would have much trouble with Poole's Reserves. Nothing came of a Reserves corner, but they were penning Poole in their own half, and Alvan Williams moved right up to crack in a long shot that sailed a foot over Welsh, back in the team after an injury. made his best move so far with a dangerous, curling shot, but Ferris timed his jump well and tipped it over for a profitless corner.
MORE MISSES
Then Poole had their first shooting chance from a right-wing cross, but Hayward put the ball feebly wide. Alan Grant ran through for City, but his long shot was well wide. Then Sokell tried a shot as Fenris was drawn out of his goal by a cross, but it was beaten down by a Poole defender. After the first 25 minutes the City were the only side really in the game-but they still weren't 60 superior as they should have been. Even Foley and Alvan Williams were going up with Exeter attacks- but they still couldn't produce a goalworthy move. Then Poole Poole broke away as Packer missed an interception, and Rosen cut in to shoot right across the face of City's goal. Alvan Williams put in another solo run, and Welsh rounded it off with a good shot that was just wide. Poole right-back Stevens went off for treatment to an ankle after tackling A. Williams, and as he did so Foley moved up to curl a shot just over Poole's bar. A few minutes later A. Williams started a City move which ended in Welsh shooting high.
SYMES GOAL
Then, in the 30th minute, Ferris pushed a Bennett header out to SYMES, and the City inside-right rattled the ball back past him to give them the lead. In Poole's first raid for 15 minutes. Hayward shot straight at Jones.
Half-time :-
CITY RESERVES 1-0 POOLE RES.
As the second half started Stevens lined up on the left wing. The Reserves got a corner after a couple of minutes, but Ferris cut it off well. From another Peter Williams shot well wide. Poole, after two brief breasaway. were back on the defensive as Sokell headed into Ferris's arms. Sokell was very unlucky a few minutes later as he flung himself forwards to meet an Irons' cross and saw his header beat Ferris but bounce off an upright and back into play. Then SOKELL did score as he finished off a Foley-Symes move with a neat side-footed shot. Just afterwards he was a fraction too slow to meet a perfect Folev through pass. Foley moved up with the attack for a while after this, and Peter Williams fell back to take his place. with Bennett switching to right-half. Foley tried a shot and a header with no luck.
FLYING SAVE
The first time Alan Jones was needed in this half he was right on the spot to make a flying save from McConnon. Then Stevens had the easiest chance of the match as an Alvan Williams's mistake let him through. The injured full back hit a shot at Jones, and as it bounced back to him off the 'keeper's body he pushed the return over the bar from only a few yards out. It looked as if Foley's injured thigh was giving him some trouble again. Result :-
EXETER CITY RES. 2-0 POOLE TOWN RES.
