Match 14
October 5th 1960.
Darlington (h)

NO EXCUSES FOR EXETER CITY ON THIS FORM. TOO SLOW AND OUT OF TOUCH: DARLINGTON EASY WINNERS.

Wednesday October 5th 1960.

EXETER CITY 1 (Rees)
DARLINGTON 3 (Carr, Baxter 2)

Played at St James's Park, attendance 3,300.

Exeter City: Lobbett; Whitnall and MacDonald; Wilson, Harvey, and Thompson; Welsh, Donaldson, Wilkinson, Rees, and Gordon.

Darlington:- Tinsley; Henderson and Mulholland; Furphy, Greener, and Spencer; Rayment, Milner, Carr, Baxter, and Morton.

Exeter City were beaten, bewildered, and battered into a sound defeat by Darlington on Wednesday evening, and no excuses can be made for them. Both centre-forwards were injured during the game, Wilkinson after 25 minutes and Carr ten minutes from time. Darlington did not get as many scoring chances as Exeter, nor did they get as many corners. But they were faster, more direct, and far more accurate because from the only five attempts they made at goal they scored three times, and all in all they had an easy win. Wilson even tried late in the first half and his team 3-1 down moving himself up to centre-forward, but when he did the ball was never passed to him, and for some reason it went more to the injured Wilkinson, limping on the left, than it did to Welsh, waiting impatiently on the right.
