Aldershot:- Brodie; Bannister and Jackson; Mundy, Shipwright, and Tyrer; Taylor, Humphrey, Kirkup, Lawlor, and Parnell.
Referee:- Mr D.W.Smith of Stonehouse.
Exeter City, playing good football on the muddy surface, made the visitors from Aldershot look a poor side and fully deserved their win by a goal to nil. But for some fine work by Brodie the City would have won by a more convincing margin. The pitch was soggy and slippery, with pools of water lying on it in places. It was apparent from the way in which Jones fumbled an early back-pass from Whitnall that the ball would be difficult to control. Following a corner to the City in the 30th minute Thompson pushed the ball forward to Rees, who slammed it low past Brodie, and this goal turned out to be the match-winner.
The City's defence held Aldershot without much trouble, Harrison, Gordon, and Rees being the best of the forwards, but the attack needs a better leader when Wilkinson isn't there.
