Western League
Dorchester T (a)
FIRST ROUND OF THE CUP: DISPUTED GOAL SAVES BOSCOMBE. CITY TO REPLAY ON DEAN COURT NEXT WEDNESDAY.
Saturday November 5th 1960.
EXETER CITY (Bond) BOURNEMOUTH & BOSCOMBE (Bumstead)
Played at St James's Park, attendance 8,000.
Exeter City: Lobbett; Whitnall and MacDonald; Harvey, A.Williams, and Thompson; Harrison, Bond, Donaldson, Rees, and Dale.
Boscombe:- Godwin; Standley and Gladstone; Arnott, Nelson, and Burgess; Bumstead, Evans, Jones, Bolton, and Coxon.
Referee:- Mr D.W. Smith of Stonehouse.
Exeter City took the lead fifteen minutes from the end of their First round F. A. Cup match, but then a goal which was disputed by the City players was allowed to stand, and this was sufficient to earn the visitors a replay, which will take place on the Dean Court Ground, Boscombe, next Wednesday.
With Exeter leading and only five or six minutes left, Bumstead tried a long shot which hit the inside of the far post, bounced across the goal, hit the other post and came out, but Mr. Smith gave a goal inspite of the City's protests.
A draw was the fairest result and Exeter proved by this match that there is not much of a gap between Third and Fourth Division football.
- The Western League match between Dorchester and the City Reserves at Dorchester produced plenty of excitement and four goals, the result being:-
Dorchester 2 City Reserves 2.
