Having knocked Exeter City out of the Cup in the first round three weeks ago Bournemouth continued to mop up their fellow South Western clubs by defeating Yeovil today in the second round. The City, as a consequence of their own exit from the competition, had no game, and the reserve team to oppose Chippenham in the Western League was in fact the first team. Even the player-manager turned out.

But the fact that the City's first team was on view seemed not to make much difference to the size of the crowd, and there was just about the normal reserve team attendance when the teams kicked-off on a pitch that was waterlogged and looked as if it would begin to cut up heavily once the game started. Exeter City (Reserves) won easily enough, as they would naturally have been expected to, and with players of the calibre of Gordon Dale, Jack Wilkinson, and Graham Rees in the forward line more than five goals should have been scored. In the last 15 minutes the City crowded on the pressure and several goals were missed.
