EXETER CITY AGAIN PEGGED BACK AFTER LEADING. STRONG RALLY BY CARLISLE EARNS THEM A POINT.

Saturday December 17th 1960.

CARLISLE UNITED 2
(Cavanagh, McMillan)
EXETER CITY 2
(Rees, Wilkinson)

Played at Brunton Park, attendance 3,000.

Carlisle United:- G.Thompson; Brown and McBain; Oliphant, Marsden, and McMillan; Brayton, Blackley, Walker, Cavanagh, and Morgan.

Exeter City: Lobbett; Foley and MacDonald; Wilson, Harvey, and Thompson; Donaldson, Bond, Wilkinson, Rees, and Dale.

Referee:- Mr K. Collinge of Altrincham.

It looked until the last quarter of an hour like being the City's first away victory of the season. They well deserved their half-time lead, and in the 60th minute went further ahead. But their fortunes changed swiftly with less than 15 minutes to go, for Carlisle rattled in two goals in less than 60 seconds and so Exeter had to be content with only one point. Showing themselves to be a better all-round side for practically the whole of the game Exeter were very unlucky not to take both points. They were quicker to the ball and more constructive than the Cumbrians and showed better finishing to their approach work. But Carlisle's second half pressure in the later stages told its tale in the end.

  • Exeter City Reserves beat Bridgwater at St James's Park by 3 goals to nil after leading by one goal at half-time. The goalscorers were Bennett, A.Williams with a penalty, and Carter.
