THE CITY SCORED WHEN THEY NEEDED TO.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 18TH:
EXETER CITY 2 SOUTHPORT 1
Exeter City really needed a home win against Southport to restore their confidence after coming to grief at Peterborough last week, and they just managed it.
Exeter City:- Jones; Foley and MacDonald; Wilson, Williams, and Thompson; Rees, Bond, Jenkins, Carter, and Dale.
Southport:- Harris; Leeder and Griffiths; Hannaway, Darvell, and Rutherford; Blain, O'Brien, Blore, Moss, and Jones.
Referee:- Mr A.J.Sturgeon, of London.
The most important aspect of Exeter's victory was that it acted as a confidence booster after the Peterborough pounding. But it was a slow process, and a very dull game for much of the time.
Exeter's goals came from a penalty by Thompson in the first half and a good shot from Jenkins in the second. Southport's goal, which was an equaliser, was got by Blore in the 25th minute.
The attendance was 4,774. The sun was shining, the pitch was firm, and it was the best day for football for a long time.

Minehead v Exeter City Reserves
Minehead on their own ground drew with the City Reserves, 1 goal all.
As John Ferris was injured, Len May returned to the Minehead goal after a long lay-off through illness, and this former Bristol Rovers player gave a good display in helping his side to draw at home against a strong Exeter side.
Bennett gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes, but winger Clive Jacobs, Minehead's leading scorer, soon equalised.
Result
Minehead 1-1 Exeter City Reserves
