Exeter City with two goals in each half checked their sequence of defeats with a 4 goals to 1 win over fellow strugglers for points to get away from the Fourth Division "cellar" at St James's Park this afternoon. Although the City won by a convincing margin it was a patchy sort of game, and the Grecians have often played better and lost. Towards the end Jenkins, who had scored two goals, took a heavy knock on the knee, and played out the rest of the game on the right wing. Until his injury he had apart from his goals provided the only life in the forward line, although Carter supplied the openings for three of Exeter's goals and showed some signs of coming back to his goalscoring form. Mitchell and Jones were the best defenders against an attack that was always potentially dangerous.
- Another new goalkeeper has been signed on by Exeter City. He is Thomas, of King's Lynn, and he played for the Reserves at Poole today, finishing on the winning side. Poole 1 City Reserves 2.
WESTERN LEAGUE CUP:
CITY IN THE FINAL.
WEDNESDAY MARCH 22ND:
TORQUAY LOSE AT PLAINMOOR.
In their first season in the Western League Exeter City Reserves have got through to the final of the League Cup. They won the semi final match against Torquay Reserves by a goal to nil at Plainmoor, but only about eight hundred people turned up to watch. This means that by the time the travelling and other expenses have been taken out of the gate receipts Exeter's share will not cover the winning bonuses they have to pay, so the club has lost money through making progress to the last round of the competition. Peter Gordon got the goal that put Exeter through, but it was a close game, and Whitnall just saved his side when he booted the ball off the line with Lobbett beaten.
