CITY FOUND CREWE AT THEIR BRIGHTEST AND BEST.

SATURDAY MARCH 25TH: CREWE ALEXANDRA 2 EXETER CITY 0.

Exeter City's match at Crewe was played in the evening on account of the Grand National at Aintree, not far away, but the attendance which was about three thousand, could not have varied a lot from what would have been expected if the Crewe officials had kept to the normal time of an afternoon kick off.

Crewe Alexandra: - Williamson; McGill and Campbell; D.Jones, Barnes, and Tighe; Pennington, Haydock, Stark, Shepherd, and M.Jones.

Exeter City: Jones; Whitnall and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Wilson; Donaldson, Rees, Carter, Bond, and Dale.

Kicking off at 6.30 Exeter City were beaten at Crewe not so much because they were at fault but chiefly because they were unlucky to find the Alexandra at their brightest and best. For almost the whole of the 90 minutes Crewe served up a speedy and aggressive type of football which required more than ordinary skill to hold in check, and Crewe had already beaten Exeter once this season, at St James's Park just over a week ago.

    Peter Gordon did not travel to Crewe as was originally planned and turning out at St James's Park for the Reserves he got the winning goal of the match against Salisbury, the League leaders.

YOUNG RESERVES EXTEND THE ROBINS.
GOOD FRIDAY MARCH 31ST:
CITY RESERVES 1 BIDEFORD 2.

In the first of the Easter Holiday matches Bideford, who opposed the City Reserves at St James's Park, got a goal right from the kick off and before an Exeter player had touched the ball.

City Reserves:- N.Cann; B. Turner and Packer; P.Williams, M.Ainscough, and Grant; Harrison, J.Dodd, Bennett, P.Sokell, and T.Irons.

Bideford: Lovegrove; Burnett and Higgins; Beer, Marsh, and Symons;
Munday, Daniel, Doyle, Barnes, and Barker.

Referee:- Mr E.F.Ley of Kentisbury.

But the young City Reserves were not disheartened, and only lack of punch near goal cost them the game. Paddy Doyle, of St James's Park memory not so long ago, scored his team's second goal with a nice header from Barker's centre just before half-time, and Exeter replied in the second half when Lovegrove caught a ball from the left wing and was shoulder-charged over the line by Bennett.
