SATURDAY APRIL 1ST:
EXETER CITY 2 YORK CITY 1.
With an unusual looking line-up Exeter City at St James's Park on Saturday provided York with a big shock. Before the half-time whistle the Grecians had two goals in the net and although the Northerners soon reduced the arrears in the second half the home team won through. There were 5,090 spectators.
Exeter City: Jones; Whitnall and MacDonald; Mitchell, Grant, and Harvey;
Gordon, Rees, Williams, Carter, and Dale.
York City:- Forgan; Bingley and Howe;
Woods, Jackson, and Fountain; Hughes, Hoggart, Wilkinson, Weir, and Gould.
Materially Alvan Williams didn't do a lot but he typified all the spirit of this "new look" City team. The attack made themselves quite a few chances, the halves and backs stayed cool, and no one was calmer than goalkeeper Jones.
