Match 49
April 19th 1961
Devon Professional Championship
Combined Torquay and Exeter X1 v Plymouth Argyle

COMBINED TORQUAY AND EXETER V PLYMOUTH ARGYLE.

DEVON PROFESSIONAL BOWL: WEDNESDAY APRIL 19TH.

Plymouth Argyle brought a touch of Second Division class football to Plainmoor, but not enough for them to beat a combined Torquay United and Exeter City side, who won by 2-1

Combined XI:- Gill (Torquay); Bettany (Torquay), Foley (City); Hancock, Smith, Eckersall (all Torquay); Bond (City), Cox and Northcott (Torquay), Donaldson and Dale (City).

Plymouth Argyle:- Leiper; Robertson and Fulton; Williams, Fincham, and Newman;
Anderson, Carter, Kirby, Jackson, and Maloy.

Two of the three goals scored were accidents, Fincham first, then Smith beating their own goalkeepers. The other was a penalty kick converted by Tommy Northcott for hands against an Argyle defender. Exeter City Reserves playing at Weston for League points were two goals down early in the second half but two goals by Scott served to retrieve the situation and they finished up on equal terms, two goals each side.
