Exeter City had to win this game but are still not safe from re-election. One club, Mansfield can push them back into the bottom four, and City will have to wait until Wednesday to await their fate, If Mansfield draw or winCity will go cap in hand on June 3rd trying to get enough votes to retain League football in Exeter, Ironically it's Gillingham, the team that City beat that Mansfield have to play. City certainly did not show the sort of fighting form that everyone expected from a desperately placed team and the game dragged on for a dul 90 minutes. Carter and Gordon did their best to liven the forward line, Rees chased everything in sight but there was a lack of co-operation and thrust that could

have proved fatal, Gillingham relied on a push and run policy, The two goals were good ones. The first after 27 minutes from a Carter header and the second five minutes from the end when Rees fired home. Jenkins, Harvey and Rees each had a bit of bad luck with scoring attempts that just failed by inchesIn defence MacDonald and Jones hardly put a foot wrong.
