Exeter City Reserves had to fight every inch of the way before defeating Dorchester in the Western League Cup Final, which was played on the Yeovil Town ground. Just when they thought they had it all tied up, leading by 2 goals to one and only a minute to go, up came Fuge to put the ball into the City net with a good header. That meant extra time, half an hour of it. It was a game very badly affected by the conditions, for steady rain fell all the time, churning up the ground and making ball control almost impossible. Greening gave Dorchester the lead after 28 minutes, but before the cheers of their spectators had died down Bennett had raced through on his own and equalised. From then on the City played much better and Bennett put them in the lead. Gordon's winner in the extra period was a beauty, giving Neil no chance whatsoever.
