EXETER CITY DISAPPOINT THEIR FANS AGAIN.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1st
CITY 0 ROCHDALE 2.

Supporters of Exeter City are still waiting to see the team capture their first home point or score their first home goal this season. For Rochdale at St. James's Park scored twice without reply before the interval and retained their lead to the end. And the City, in spite of their efforts in the second half, never looked remotely like getting the goals they needed.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Johnston and MacDonald; Mitchell, Anderson, and Hughes; Sells, Rees, Pierce, Green, and Jenkins.

Rochdale:- Burgin; Martin and Winton;
Hepton, Milburn, and Thompson; Wragg, Watson, Hardman, Cairns, and Whitaker.

Referee:- Mr J.K.Taylor of Wolverhampton. Linesmen:- Messrs F.J.Turnell and G.Walker.

Rochdale, led by former City star Jimmy Thompson, had last season's reserve centre half John Hardman as an experimental centre forward, and this player obliged with a goal in the very first minute when he thumped a ball from Wragg into the roof of Exeter's net. The City kept an unchanged team for the third successive game and it was the first time that they played to Mr. Spiers's 4-3-3 plan, with Sells and Jenkins behind the other forwards, in front of the St James's Park crowd. It was not a success, unfortunately.

Western League

Portland, who had won all their four previous games, went straight into the attack but failed to penetrate the City's defence. In the second half McGinn and Southcombe scored for Exeter.
